‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Adds Awkwafina, Begins Filming

Filming for “Crazy Rich Asians,” helmed by director Jon M. Chu and based on Kevin Kwan’s best-selling book of the same name, began Monday, according to Warner Bros. Pictures.

The pic is led by Constance Wu and newcomer Henry Golding, and features a supporting cast that includes Gemma Chan and Michelle Yeoh, as well as latest additions Awkwafina and Ron Chieng (of “The Daily Show.”)

In the movie, Rachel, a New York City native and professor, is thrown into a world of jealous socialites and difficult-to-please mothers after she travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick to discover that he is heir to a massive fortune and one of the country’s most eligible bachelors.

“Crazy Rich Asians” will be filmed entirely in Singapore and Malaysia and produced by Nina Jacobson (“The Hunger Games”), Brad Simpson (“World War Z”) and John Penotti (“Hell or High Water”).

A release date is yet to be determined.
