With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, stay in with your loved ones and celebrate with “To All the Boys: Always and Forever,” coming to Netflix on February 12.
The young adult romantic comedy is the third and final installment of Netflix’s popular “To All the Boys” film series based on the bestselling novels by Jenny Han. It follows the love story of Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky as they navigate their relationship through the end of high school and the start of adulthood. The cast of the film and the author of the books sat down to help close the final chapter and reminisce about some of the experiences they’ve had being a part of this beloved trilogy.
“It has changed my life drastically,” Lana Condor, who plays the romantic-at-heart Lara Jean, revealed. “It’s also connected me to our community and connected me to so many people around the world. The most rewarding part has been sharing stories and listening to stories from people who have related to the film.”
Both the films and the books center around Lara Jean, a shy teenager who writes love letters—ones she never planned to send—to boys she’s had crushes on, and her experiences after the letters are sent to them. Han had seen a lack of Asian American representation in storytelling and wanted to broaden the spectrum of what it looks like to be American with her books. “There are so many different ways to be the girl next door,” Han explained. “And for so long we’ve only seen one version of that and now I think it is being expanded.”
As the trilogy comes to an end, the cast feels bittersweet having to say goodbye to their characters and the world of “To All the Boys” itself. “I am so devoted to this world and I’m so devoted to Lara Jean,” Condor later expressed. “It’s been an honor to play her.”
