ABC has ordered Ken Jeong’s medical comedy Dr. Ken to series, along with two other pilots, reports Variety. This will be the second sitcom featuring an Asian American family, following Fresh Off the Boat, which recently got renewed for a second season.

Inspired by Jeong’s past experiences as an internist, Dr. Ken follows a “frustrated HMO doctor juggling medicine, marriage and parenting, and succeeding at none of them.” Naturally, Jeong is the leading man in the multi-camera comedy.

Suzy Nakamura stars Jeong’s ficitional wife, while actors Tisha Campbell-Martin, Dave Foley, Jonathan Slavin, Albert Tsai and Krista Marie Yu round out the cast.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, Dr. Ken is penned by Jeong, Jared Stern and Mike O’Connell. Executive producers are Stern, Jeong, John Davis, John Fox and Mike Sikowitz with O’Connell as co-executive producer.

This past year, Jeong has been keeping himself busy by producing indie films Ktown Cowboys and Advantageous, the latter which premiered at Sundance last January. He also directed a 30 for 30 short film on Reginald “Reggie” Ho, a University of Notre Dame pre-med student who was part of the acclaimed football team that won a national championship in 1988.
