Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi fantasy, “Mickey 17,” has pushed back its release date, and fans can hardly wait to hear more about the upcoming feature.
Originally slated to premiere on March 29, 2024, the movie will now see audiences on Jan. 31, 2025. Replacing the original scheduled date of “Mickey 17,” Warner Brothers has instead moved the release date for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” two weeks earlier than anticipated. The decision is a reflection of the production process: the Bong project reportedly needs more time to finish after being affected by last year’s writer and actor strikes.
“Mickey 17” comes after Bong’s wildly popular “Parasite,” which made history at the 2020 Academy Awards as the first non-English language movie to win Best Picture. “Mickey 17” is highly anticipated as a result, with a story adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel, “Mickey7.” The plot mirrors other sci-fi films such as “The Martian,” and follows an “expendable” employee sent on a space mission to colonize an ice planet.
The cast is led by Robert Pattinson and includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collete and Mark Ruffalo.
By releasing in January, “Mickey 17” will have the opportunity to show in IMAX, and will compete with other Jan. 2025 movies such as “Paddington in Peru and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World.”
