Korean Canadian actor found dead inside TV personality’s Hollywood home

Korean Canadian actor Richard Hong was found dead Friday in an apparent homicide by a burglar inside the rental home of television personality George Stroumboulopoulos.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Hong, 41, was found beaten to death via blunt-force trauma when police arrived at Stroumboulopoulos’ Hollywood Hills home around 2 a.m.

Hong was found unresponsive by his roommate, who called police.

“I’m in shock. What’s going on through my mind is just the randomness of this,” Abdi Manavi, a friend of Hong’s, told KTLA. “Someone knocks on your door and you open it and that’s the end.”

Witnesses said they saw a man in a black jacket fleeing the neighborhood. Police have not made any arrests.

Hong was staying in the house while Stroumboulopoulos was in New York. The former “George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight” host took to Twitter Friday, writing that Hong was “a dear friend.” “There’s so much to say but I’m at a loss for words so just love your people and I will have more to say when we know more about what happened,” he wrote.

Hong’s credits included appearances in “ER” and “Big Urban Myth Show,” as well as in the film “Tied Up.”
