Famed Hong Kong filmmaker and auteur Wong Kar-Wai is headed to television to direct a Chinese American gangster saga — and he is looking for actors.
Here’s the notice:
Titled “Tong Wars,” the 10-episode original drama is an exciting addition to the Amazon Video network. Variety reported Amazon is looking for “big shows that can make the biggest difference around the world” — much like “Game Of Thrones” — and feels this project is “a prime example of a period piece that blends the epic history of Chinese immigration to the U.S. with a crime potboiler.”
Penned by Paul Attanasio and directed by Wong Kar-Wai, the period piece is a compelling “gangster saga that resonates within the complex narrative of the Chinese American experience,” according to the casting call.
Wong is best known for his romantic titles “In the Mood for Love” and “Chungking Express.” Interested talent must submit materials by Dec. 22, 2017, and be available July 2018 to January 2019.
