Pic of the Day: Pope Francis Rolls Through South Korea in a Kia Soul

by RUTH KIM

Only real men ride in cute, tiny cars.

When Pope Francis arrived in South Korea Thursday morning, the humble pontiff ditched the Popemobile for an unostentatious choice of transportation—a Kia Soul.

To citizens in a country where you flaunt it if you’ve got it, the ride didn’t seem like the most worthy form of travel for His Holiness. South Koreans were intrigued nonetheless, and one South Korean user aptly tweeted, “The pope rode the Soul because he is full of soul.”

Pope Francis, aka “The People’s Pope,”  is known for shedding the fancy and extravagant garments usually donned by popes in the past. His style is plain, white, and simple, and he even lives in modest living quarters and often takes the local bus around town. Hey, he’s just like one of us!

Watch this riveting clip of Pope Francis getting into the back of a black Kia Soul.
