Themed cafes have been around forever. You’ve probably heard of the famous Rainforest Cafe that can be found all over the United States or the Hello Kitty-themed cafe’s in Asia. Now, cat-themed cafes that started in Taiwan a dozen years ago are becoming a trend and are slowly hitting Europe, with North America and Australia soon to follow later this year. It’s pawsitively quite frightening how quickly this trend is growing. Japan alone is home to a reported number of 150 cat cafes where locals and tourists alike enjoy sipping their hot beverages while being able to admire and play with different breeds of cuddly kittens and cats.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Mixing food and feline does not sound sanitary nor appetizing, but the cat cafes are already thinking one step ahead. Before approaching their furry friends, customers are politely asked to disinfect their hands with a hand sanitizer, provided by the cafe. Some cafes even have a “look but don’t grab policy.” Even with restrictions however, these cat cafes are highly popular, so be sure to call ahead and make a reservation or else the whole situation could become a cat-astrophe!
Here is a list of top cat cafes to visit:
1. The Cat Cafe Budapest in Budapest, Hungary
2. The Cafe Neko no Niewa in Singapore
3. Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in London, England
