‘The Sun Is Also A Star’ Trailer Reveals An Age-Old Love Story With A Modern Conflict

Today, “The Sun Is Also a Star” dropped its very first trailer.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon, the film follows pragmatic, Jamaican-born Natasha Kingsley (Yara Shahidi) and the hopelessly romantic, college-bound Daniel Bae (Charles Melton) as they fall deeply in love with one another over the course of a single day. Melton got his first big break playing Reggie Mantle in the hit CW series, “Riverdale.” This will be his first full-length, Hollywood production. “The Sun” is set to hit theaters on May 17.

As the couple show each other their favorite spots in New York City (everything from a noraebang to a planetarium) Kingsley reveals her family is facing deportation and that it might be her last day in the U.S. “The Sun Is Also a Star” promises to bring modern depth and complexity to the tired trope of star-crossed lovers separated by seemingly insurmountable odds. We’ll just have to wait until May to find out if the stars will align for Kingsley and Bae.
