Two Asian Actors Nab Network Pilot Leads

This pilot season looks promising for increased TV screen diversity, if recent news is any indication — Kosha Patel is set to lead ABC’s pilot of “False Profits,” while NBC’s drama “The Enemy Within” has cast Raza Jaffrey in another leading role.

For Patel, who’s recurred in shows like “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” and “Mary + Jane,” “False Profits” will mark her first series regular role.

She will play a quiet, smart TJ Maxx employee named Parvun Chattoraj who eventually “fights her way to the top of the cutthroat world of a multi-level marketing cosmetics business,” according to Deadline.

The comedy drama has also cast Kapil Talwalkar as a series regular named Rameesh.

Fans of CBS’ medical series “Code Black” will recognize Jaffrey, who played series regular Dr. Neal Hudson on the show. He joins “The Enemy Within” as another regular, an FBI agent named Ali Ziai who has a specialty in interrogation techniques.

Ali works with a notoriously traitorous former CIA agent as she begins helping the FBI with its espionage cases. The show is described as a “character-driven investigative thriller set in the world of counterintelligence.”

Earlier this week, ABC announced that it had cast Hannah Simone, who will complete a seven-season run as Cece Parikh in Fox’s “New Girl” later this year, to play the superheroine in ABC’ s reboot pilot of the ’80s series “Greatest American Hero.”
