WATCH: Justin Chon’s Vanguard Award Speech at the 16th Unforgettable Gala

Read the full transcript of Chon’s speech below:

First off, I want to say I’m sorry I’m not there with you guys. I’m in New York right now working and also, the biggest news of my entire life: My wife Sasha is about to burst at any moment. I’m going to be a dad. The world is now over. You better be scared, because I am bringing children into the world, and my offspring are going to be little terrors. So that’s happening in my life.

I want to say thank you for the Vanguard award. I truly appreciate it, and I think in the last few years I’ve matured a little bit. Unforgettable is like my second home, and the fact that I’m not there is weird.

KoreAm and Audrey have supported me throughout the years. Ever since I became an actor, KoreAm has been a publication that I’ve always read and felt like was such a staple in the Asian American community.

I am still developing as an artist, and I feel like I have a new purpose in life, which is to advance Asian voices in a very humanistic way. “Gook” was a work of love for me so that we can break through the threshold into mainstream media. So thank you for the award, I truly appreciate it. Have a wonderful night.
