No, you haven’t woken up in bizarro world. The above is a video of the Japanese version of long-running sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. It’s weird how the opening montage is eerily similar to that of the easily-recognized American original recipe.
I wonder if SNL Japan will spoof crazy American gameshows like Mike Myers and Chris Farley did in this amusing skit. Probably not.
Yahoo! TV’s blog points out that SNL has had no cast member of Asian descent on the show.
The American “Saturday Night Live” has never, in all its 700 seasons, featured even one Asian cast member, so unless the Japanese “SNL” turns into a farm team for talent, the amount of Japanese sketch comedy on display in this clip may be the most American audiences ever see. Come on, Lorne Michaels, prove me wrong!
