Does It Mix? 7 Odd Red Wine Combos

Rejoice — Saturday is National Drink Wine Day (to some of us, that’s just every day, but this one has a special name, OK?)!

Wine is typically enjoyed best all by its lonesome, but we started wondering what it would be like to mix it with other drinks sitting around the house.

Enter our very scientific* process. The control variable? A 2013 ZD Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, with pretty intense hints of plums and berries. The experiment? Let’s just say it involved pouring coffee into a glass of Cab and letting our staff taste-test the results. Because…why not?

 

 

1. Wine + Apple Juice

The verdict: “Tastes like sugar!” We’re into it.

 

 

2. Wine + Coffee

The verdict: Don’t do this. Don’t ever, ever, ever do this.

 

 

3. Wine + Green Tea

The verdict: Whywhywhwywhynononono

 

 

4. Wine + Calpico Soda

The verdict: “It’s not bad. … No, it is pretty bad. … Well, no, it’s really not that bad. … Well.”

 

 

5. Wine + Ramune

The verdict: “Basically sparkling red wine.” (But, you know, not.)

 

 

6. Wine + Boba Milk Tea

The verdict: Wha…ooh. Ooh. Not bad.

 

 

7. Wine + Yakult

The verdict: “Bootleg candy.”
