“New Girl” alumna Hannah Simone is working with ABC Studios to put her semi-autobiographical comedy pilot into production.
The comedy, written and co-executively produced by Simone, received a put pilot order from the network, according to Deadline. The show revolves around her nontraditional Indian family. The Canadian actress’s father is Indian and her mother is English-born with German, Italian and Greek ancestry. The untitled project will reflect Simone’s relationship with her dad. It will follow the “broke, single and nearly thirtysomething Hannah (Simone) as she and her father form a new bond when he announces that he and her mother are separating.”
Simone is teaming up with former “New Girl” co-executive producers Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson, who worked on the comedy for four years. She recently wrapped up seven years on the Fox series, where she is best known for her role as Indian American Cece Parekh.
Earlier this year, she was set to play Meera in the reboot of “The Greatest American Hero,” which reimagined the main character as an Indian American woman. The show was not picked up, but Simone was one of the most sought-out actresses last pilot season.
