By now, we’re pretty used to Buzzfeed reaction videos that involve Americans trying Asian food and giving their honest opinion about it. While we have our qualms every now and then, we can’t help but admit that we’re rather addicted to these videos. After a lifetime of eating a certain culture’s cuisine, who wouldn’t be curious to see someone else eat it for the very first time? Will it blow their minds and they end up insisting on eating it everyday? Or will their face scrunch up in disgust?
We’ve seen Americans react to Filipino street food, “exotic” Asian food, Japanese Kit Kats, spam and much more. Generally, the reactions have been similar. There are a handful of people who keep an open mind and end up liking the new food, but the rest promise to never eat it again and some even spit out the unfamiliar food. For crying out loud, they didn’t even like Japanese snacks!
But things are definitely different in this video of Americans trying Singaporean food. By far the most positive taste test video we’ve seen, the participants end up raving about nearly every dish placed in front of them. Sure, there’s occasional confusion and hesitance, but it’s clear that the participants are in love with it.
“This is perfect,” comments one participant after trying laksa, a popular Singaporean noodle soup. “This is exactly what you would want.”
At one point, another participant even asks that the camera crew turn off the cameras because she intends to eat her entire plate of hainanese chicken rice.
