When A Wounded Homeless Man Is Found Wandering The Streets, Volunteers Step In

by MICHELLE WOO

A few weeks ago, 58-year-old Chun Park of Georgia was shot in the head, neck and back by a gunman who tried to rob him, according to WSB-TV.

He was treated at a local hospital, but discharged within a few hours, as his injuries weren’t considered too severe.

A news photographer saw him wandering down the street in bandages, wearing no shoes and only a hospital gown. Park is homeless.

“He say, ‘You OK?’ I say, ‘I’m not OK.’ I say, ‘Help me please,’” Park told WSB-TV.

Park’s story made the local news. A kind viewer named Heather Harp wanted to help. She rounded up a group of volunteers through Facebook to check on him. They found him under a bridge. His wounds were weeping and he was in a lot of pain.

Volunteers cleaned and re-bandaged Park’s wounds. They even raised money to pay for his prescriptions, food, and about six weeks in a motel room.

“Just look at this smile!!” Harp wrote on her Facebook page.

“I’ve been on hard times myself and sometimes we all need a hand,” Harp told WSB-TV. “Sometimes we all need uplifting. We all need someone to care about us. Everybody has a story and whatever took them down the path they were on to get them where they were at, it’s not for me to judge.”

She hopes that when Chun recovers, he will be able to go through a local job preparation program. His trade is flooring and carpeting.
