You thought there were only five digital events to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month? Think again. As the first full week of May comes to a close, you can check out these fun new activities to keep the APAHM party going. You can join in these five festivities remotely, but make sure to bring your friends and family along for the ride!
1. Freeform’s #StaytheFFHome Live Music Showcase
Today, May 8, actress Sherry Cola is hosting the latest music showcase from TV channel Freeform. The show will feature artists heard on the series “Good Trouble,” and you can tune in on Freeform’s Instagram starting at 4PM EST. Between Cola’s comedy skills and these musicians’ talents, this live-stream will definitely keep you from getting “Bored in the House.”
2. Give In May
We know that just about everyone is struggling financially these days, but if you’re able to, consider donating to the AAPI-support organizations that have long fought for our community. The Give In May fundraising campaign offers a wide variety of nonprofits, like the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment, Asian Health Services and Asian Americans Advancing Justice, that you can help throughout May. 3. “Mira, Royal Detective”’s Family Activities
This one goes out to all the parents struggling to keep their kids entertained 24/7. Disney Junior is here to save the day with family-friendly video content and activity sheets. Plus, they’re releasing several new episodes and a new, short-form series, so get ready to hear those catchy songs for the rest of the month.
4. Japanese Breakfast’s Live-stream Concert
Just when we thought we couldn’t love JBrekkie more, she goes and warms our hearts again. On May 14 at 7pm, she’s hosting a special, ticketed live-stream concert to help support the members of her touring crew who are now without income—and she’s selling some pretty dope merch, too. 5. Walmart’s “Spark” Podcast
Even the big brands are getting in on the APAHM action. This month, Walmart launched their “Spark” podcast, a storytelling platform for AAPIs. A new episode premieres every week of May, with the first focusing on the Pacific Islander and Hawaiian experience. You can tune in on Spotify, Buzzsprout and the Podcast App.
